» Catching up on snowflake! It's been an interesting few days, huh?

» I have a myriad of goals in my personal life, and I could probably just spend all of this entry talking about them! Here are a few general goals I have that are related to my fandom life:
  • Write 150k words to reach my [community profile] getyourwordsout goal
  • Read 50 books (I have mini reading goals, but I think I'll talk about them on Wednesday)
  • Read and comment on more fics (If I'm going to post fics, it only seems fair!)
  • Comment on friends' entries at least once a week

» I'd like to promote two authors and two webcomics today:

» Jane Harper Harper writes mystery/thriller books set in Australia, and I've devoured each one in a day or more! Her first books was The Dry, which is excellent. The sequel was ok. I really loved The Lost Man and I can't wait for The Survivors to come out soon. These can be heavy books, in terms of theme, so I wouldn't pick these up if you're looking for some light-hearted escapism.

» Tessa Dare Dare writes historical fiction romance novels (light on the historical if you're a stickler for that!), but her newest series (or new to me) are such fun reads that I don't care! Girl Meets Duke series currently has 3 books, and the fourth is coming out... eventually. They can be read as a standalone, but all the characters interact in each one, so I wouldn't recommend it. These romances are open door, but I wouldn't say they're explicitly graphic. It all depends on taste though!

» ADHD Alien I can say with complete honesty that these comics and other comics the creator reblogs to this Tumblr were so on the nose that they were part of what encouraged me to seek a diagnosis. I'd say they could also be good ways to explain to others how they experience the world if they're open to learning.

» Cats Cafe Comics If you like cute animals and coffee, you'll like this! I discovered the author's book first at my library and went searching for more. Here's their description of the comic: "Cat’s Cafe is a heartwarming comic about a tiny cafe where all the local animals come to unwind. It’s a place of understanding and acceptance where you can feel safe to be yourself. When you visit, you’ll meet characters like Rabbit, an anxious bunny who is doing their best to overcome their fears. Penguin, the coffee addicted flightless bird, and of course, Kiwi, the knife wielding pink ball of vicious energy. When it’s time to head home you’ll be sure to leave feeling warm and floofy".

» It's been years since I steadily enjoyed fanworks, but here's some I've enjoyed.

» I Am the Night by [archiveofourown.org profile] Chash Brooklyn Nine-Nine/Batman (All Media Types) Gen. Rated G.

A new vigilante rises in New York City. The official position of the NYPD is that he's a criminal. Jake Peralta thinks he needs a sweater.

I never finished, or caught up on, B99, but I do have a soft spot for the characters. Jake Peralta would totally be a fanboy over Batman!

» Like a Flower Growing in Darkness by [archiveofourown.org profile] Wyste The Avengers (Marvel Movies)/Batman (All Media Types) Darcy Lewis/Bruce Wayne. Rated G.

So there's a fanfic trope in Avengers fandom where you ship Darcy with everyone, the unlikelier the better. Soulmate AU, the first words you say to each other are written on your skin somewhere. This is fandom-Darcy, not necessarily canon-Darcy. In which Darcy Lewis threatens to tase Bruce Wayne over a shrimp platter, and they are both surprised by the results.

I love soulmate AUS, and I love Darcy Lewis. My OTP for her is Steve Rogers (and I have no fic for them bookmarked, go figure!), but I enjoy reading how others in the fandom write her. I never would have thought to have paired her with Bruce Wayne, but this was quite an enjoyable read.

» One Day in Velen by [archiveofourown.org profile] Isis The Witcher (video game) Gen. Rated T.

Geralt of Rivia has a bad day...over and over again..

Even though it's marked as being the video game fandom, I think fans of the Netflix series would be able to read and enjoy this no problem. It's basically Groundhog Day in Velen!

» Goodnight, Moon by [archiveofourown.org profile] Yahtzee Joan of Arcadia Gen. Rated T. Major Character Death.

Written for the "Day After Tomorrow" challenge, in which the coming global instant-apocalypse was to strike every fandom imaginable.

This was such an interesting crossover, as it were, but oh gosh, it is not a fluffy fic at all. I loved the show when I was younger (hated the end, different story), and I think the author really has an understanding of the characters.

» Well that was a lot! As Tigger would say, TTFN, ta-ta for now! ♥

<3 Tessa Dare is one of my favorite authors. I don't generally read historical romance, but I can't get enough of hers!!

I've only read her Girl Meets the Duke series ... I was never really a regency/historic romance novel fan and then I read her. And now I'm addicted! <3

Those are great goals. I have the opposite issue, I spend too much time reading and not enough writing, lol. Good luck with your goals this year.

Thank you for sharing your recs, I'm not familiar with any of them but sound interesting. I love this challenge for all the new things to check out.

Both of those webcomics are very good. I noticed that they also have monetary aspects (patreon on one, a store on the other) so they qualify as crowdfunding. Would you be willing to nominate those for a Rose and Bay Award? Nominations are open through the end of January, then voting will be in February.
